Art Journal
If you have never taken an online workshop...you should consider Junelle's delightful class, this is my interpretation of my house, filled with ART. Tubes of paint, brushes everywhere, new palette knives, sketch pencil...all done out of paper, the tubes of paint for the roof are crumpled and bent, hard to see. Lots of texture. Mod Podge...my best friend

Pair of Lemons
This is paper that has been coated with modeling paste, when it was completely dry I tried to watercolor on top, it kinda of beaded up, but when it was dry it was kinda neat looking, then I got out my oil pastels and gave it some depth. It was fun to try something new

Friday Painting
Well, I took my oil painting class. I didn't get to do what I wanted to do. What I did find out...I want to take from the lady that owns the art studio...lots of flowers and vases. I'm not a big fan of a teacher that is more interested in painting on their own picture then helping...just saying

Bird and Bowl Sketch
I'm taking an oil painting class tomorrow...just for the day. Its at Newport Beach, it suppose to be warm and sunny. I did this sketch last night, I'm thinking this may be what I paint. Now if I can decide if the are lemons or eggs, I may just end up with a bowl full of flowers.

Whimsical Oil Painted Pumpkins
A few posts back I painted a large canvas for my fireplace mantel, I wanted to try one in oil in the 6x6 format. It was harder since I was working wet on wet, I just wanted to see if I could do it.
I didn't have time to put my pictures from yesterday in the computer, Stacey and I made a delightful trip yesterday, I'll share tonight or tomorrow for sure.

Fruit Painting
Funny story, I put some eggs in this ceramic berry dish, then I decided to make them lemons, now when I see them on the computer, they look like yellow eggs, thats what I get for not using real lemons, or better yet, I should have just painted eggs.lol I am having so much fun!!
My online class with Junelle (yes and amen) starts next week, she is so full of ideas, I'm sure I can combine what I will learn and use it in my little paintings.
Took a trip to Dick Blicks yesterday, I signed up for a palette knife class in Jan, I need to relearn how to use them, tomorrow I'll post my pear I did...no brushes.

Single Pink Rose
I had painted this in acrylic and didn't care for it, so last night I picked it up and added oil paints. I was going to paint the back ground with a mixed black...I accidentally picked up a touch of dirty white that was on my palette, so I just went with it. Now to figure out what to do with the blank right side, when it is dry I'm thinking of trying out stamping some script, we'll see. I wish I had taken a before picture. This is actually sketched from the many rose photos that I took this summer.

Fall Pumpkin Painting
Here is my latest, I'm trying to get loose and messy. I'm so excited, I was blog hopping last evening and came across a Dana Cooper that teaches watercolor classes, its a little far away, but I want to go
for a day, maybe next Friday
I'm also excited about this little guy...$15 with my 50 % off coupon at Aaron Brothers
of course the one I REALLY want is $200-$300 ouch.
Here it is set up with my holder, I love the paint that is getting on my black canvas holder...makes me feel like I'm on my way to being a painter.lol
Here is the box of paints. I've had some of these for 20 years, I use pliers to get the caps off
For now I'm using this 2 tiered caddy to hold the paints that I am using, not ideal, but good for now
I wanted a jar with a bail on it, so I stopped off at an antique mall. I dont think this one is an old one, due to the price and the color is to intense, but it will serve its purpose.
I dont know if you can see it here, but there are all kinds of white sparkles where the light is bouncing around...I'm starting to notice things like that. Now I want to make a space to set up still life's
Here's my pretty paper palette, I plan to get a piece of glass, but until I do, this works fine.
See you tomorrow with my next painting
and for those who have emailed me, as soon as they are dry, I will be listing them on my Etsy,
which is totally empty at the moment

Vase full of Roses
Lessons learned
1. Oils take sooo long to dry
2. Never leave palette of oil paints where kitty can walk across
3. Need to learn to added more texture
4. Painting these would be a lot easier with an easel.

Daily Painting
My latest 6X6. I picked up a few new colors today.whoohoo. My favorite so far, Caribean Blue by Old Holland. Thankfully I had some items I didn't use for another class, so I returned them and picked out a few oils I didn't have. Still haven't gotten an easel. I want to get the right one for me...so many choices.

A New Set-Up and Oil Painting
Above is the picture I took yesterday, lots of glare
today I got this photo tent for $10 off craigslist. I will be putting a light above next time. I tried different setting on my camera, I need to reset the white balance
No glare, I was able to get up closer
Here is my next 6x6 canvas...I went to Aaron Brothers today to look for a frame...not one 6x6
I found some online, I just want to purchase a couple to see how they actually look framed.
tomorrow I'll show you my bucket of paints...and hopefully a new painting,
What I'm finding is this...I see areas that I want to rework when I put it up on the computer,
I guess thats a good thing.
until tomorrow....
New Passion...Small Oil Paintings
I did it! my first 6x6 oil painting. What fun...See that awful glare on the upper right...I found a "light tent" on Craigslist last night...hoping they will call me back, I need one sooo bad. Love the panel holder, it gave me something to hold on to while I painted (until I get an easel)
I already have another canvas sketched out...I'll be painting tonight!
On the previous post...the top pictures are not mine, they belong to Carol Marine
I'm also hoping to get a frame today...I have a lot of things to do today, I better get going
(easel, light tent, frame, more 6x6 panels, more paint, you can never have enough paint! maybe a new
pallet knife)

Project
So, I'm a big fan of Martha Lever. She is inspiring me to get back into oil painting...on small
substrates. One of the classes she just took, said that these boards are fabulous to hold onto your small board then the whole thing can set in your easel...It comes from Carol Marine, she sells them, but...
being the impatient person that I am...I had some boards and a saw and I got to work. Its all glued up

I painted mine black thats a small canvas board in the center...anyway, I'm a happy camper! Now I need to get an easel...I sold mine when we left Oregon,
I have been on Craigslist...Craigslist down here is hard work. There are 3 cities that I have to check, one is on either side of us and then there is one below us.
L.A., Inland Empire, OC (orange county)...then I have to see how far away, sometimes its an hour and half, and with gas the price it is down here (highest in the country)...I want to find one close...I'll let you know if I get one tomorrow...that my plan.

Canvas Day 2
Here is the beginning. I have to fix the upper right sunflower. the pumpkin on the left has hints of purple the one on the right is cream and yellow. This is going on a yellow wall. I'll take a photo on the wall tomorrow after I play around with it some more.
Canvas in Progress
I thought I would document my large canvas. It is going in my office, which is yellow and purple. I have a canvas I painted for spring/summer and for winter...but nothing for fall. Here is my first installment ....
I tried Martha Stewart's crackle medium...no crackles. weird
So, after I glazed over the crackle, I added Deco art's 1 step crackle...no crackles...again
I went ahead and glazed over it with Burnt Umber and Raw Umber. I like the finish, but I'm so disappointed in the crackles I used. I LOVE the 2 part system...I went to 5 stores and cant find it. I did find it online, but by the time you pay shipping it is soooo expensive.
This is what I got done yesterday, I did get my design sketched on with chalk...on to the painting today.

Fall Colors: Cream, Aqua, Yellow
I'm working on a pumpkin canvas for my mantel. It has lots of texture and shimmer and shine from a glazing of metallic paints
I stenciled the patterns on the pumpkins
I have hints of yellow throughout and realized I had intended to put a vine around the short pumpkin
Much better. Now I have to redo my mantel...my fall is going to be aqua and yellow
It looks a little bit boring, but it wont with all the stuff around it...books, candles, etc.
