My Fun Sunday

We started out going to the Santa Monica Farmers market. Love all the colors
The picture below was fun...we decided to go to Rodeo Dr. there were so many people hovering around this corner. As we stopped for a red light, I hopped out...it was a party to launch "100 years of the Beverly Hills Hotel."  Sadly, this where Whitney Huston died.
After lunch we walked around the 3rd Street Promenade. This gal was so delightful...She was yelling on the phone in French...for at least 10 mins. But she made for a great photo op. lol Her arms were waving as she paced back and forth.
Ok, this picture doesn't look like much, but I had to take it...So, when I was dropped off at the Beverly Hills Hotel, as Stacey drove around the block they saw the "Sprinkles" (Cupcake) big Mercedes cargo van...the engine was smoking, then the fire dept came and blocked off the street. So much for seeing Rodeo Drive!

Art projects in the works

My new art journal is ready. Glued pages together then gesso...
My latest endeavor... preparing vintage linens for a "fresco painting" learning what works and what doesnt
New Old linens, you can never have enough... I love the grey and lavender colors
While at a thrift shop in Big Bear, there was a basket full of linens and hankies...what a find!
I did a drawing on paper, copied it on our printer, added gel medium, left it overnight and rubbed off
the paper...I've never tried this kind of transfer, worked great...now its ready for color!

Now I cant wait for next week...I can start working on my many art projects!
It was 109 here today, thank goodness for air conditioning.!
I'm afraid to look up Vegas to see how hot it is going to be next weekend...ugh

This Past Week

 Laguna Beach...

Big Bear

Everyone is blogging about Fall coming up...not here!! it is going to be 105 tomorrow. Summer has been crazy fun. I've been so fortunate to have a ton of mini vacations. San Francisco to San Diego from the beach to the mountains. Just got back from the beautiful Big Bear. Next week Stacey and I headed to Vegas, we have a friend getting married and Stacey is their photographer.

I've started many craft projects over the summer, but I cant seem to get anything done. I have great plans to finish things, but I had to make the decision to just enjoy summer and not stress about what I'm not getting done.

A Lovely Day

I
Sometimes I get so frustrated with the way new blogger works. I guess if I want to write something between pictures I have to do it one picture at a time??? Anyway. I had a wonderful day down at Rainbow California...went to "flea Market" that Christie Repasy puts on. Lots of vendors. Lots of painted roses. The carts are handmade, but they are also hand painted, how cleaver. The umbrella is all decopaged papers...how cute!! Christie painted roses on this burlap covered chair!!
This last picture is a book that I have gotten all prepared for art journaling, glue, ripping, gesso, now to get busy!!
Going on another mini vaca...up to Big Bear, I cant wait to relax!!

Flea Market Sunday

Went to Whimsey Flea Market in Tustin today...I've been checking out this quilt from this vendor for a few months. She finally dropped her price, I've been wanting a thin used antique quilt to cut up, its really worn. $35...love it!! then I found this darling coin bag, soft leather...$2. The weather was perfect.
Took a little drive to Balboa Island at Newport Beach. How cute is this little building

Mixed Media Coronado Beach picture

While in Coronado we sat under beach umbrellas, admired the work of the sand castle. Army helicopters  flew over every half hour. I plan to attach a little note to the clip, but also a fun way to hang it
This is a close up. I made the wheels with my new quilling tool. The umbrellas are 3D. The sand in Coronado has shimmery mica flakes, so I added modge podge and sprinkled on champagne colored glitter and real sand. I made the beach cart out of paper and added some of the drywall tape to make the "wire"

Coronado California

Stacey and I were invited on the spur of the moment to visit our friends in Coronado Island...we jumped at the opportunity. They rented a cute little cottage for a month. A block away from Del Coronado and the beach. We had a little time to go to old town San Diego. One night we went and took night pictures of San Diego skyline across the bay. Ahhh what fun we had.

More Dye

I'm on to another project. I'm taking a workshop from Rae @ http://raemissigman.squarespace.com/ making a carry all bag. She had us use Tumble dye sprays.
Another experiment a concoction of carrots, strawberries, a couple of blue berries, and whatever else we had for dinner...
I put my fabric right down on top of it and pushed it around
 I love the color

Mission Accomplished and an Experiment

I was checking out the beloved Pentrist  and came across this post about boiling avocado skins and dye fabric, so I gave it try...and then some. I put about 2 inches of water in a small sauce pan, I only had one avocado skin, I boiled it for about 10 min. I then put the dampened fabric in the water and let it set for about 20 min (ok, I forgot about it.lol) When I pulled it out I was thrilled with the color. Its the most unusual pink. Who would have thought. I hung it up and it got a good grungy look. The fabric in the center is the original white skirt that I picked up at the thrift store.
Then, I shucked an ear of corn, put more water in the avocado water and boiled the silk and everything, I didn't boil it for very long, I just dunked in the piece on the right and hung it up.
This morning I was so delighted with the way the colors turned out.

Stacey and I made it back from our trip to San Francisco. It was just delightful. We made it to all the Missions (which was our mission) then when we got home we saw we missed one. I'll be posting pictures soon. Being gone for 6 days. I had a LOT of work to do, I just now caught up.

Then I have been wanting to paint daisy's s been awhile...all done with the pencils and crayons...adding a bit of gesso to brighten. After it was done, I added some pen work. I cant say I'm done...might add some paper, or stamps...we'll see,

Leaving for San Fransisco early tomorrow morning for a long weekend. Stopping at some Missions, Going to the Ferry Building, Flea Market in Berkeley, Shopping on 4th Street, Checking out Sonoma,
Carmel, Santa Cruz, Morro Bay, Gilroy Garlic Festival...and we have some good eats planned.

Journal Cover

Another fabric journal cover. A little simpler design, those flowers hanging...I cut off a sleeve of a blouse and turned it upside down...I love how it turned out.
I'm getting all excited again...Sat. I get to take what may be my last class with Christie Repasy, I plan to do some pale white.light pink roses. It has already helped me so much, just taking the one classes. I pulled out some very vintage postcards I collected years ago, I'm studding them. I just love learning new things. I'm also taking the next class at Artful Gathering with Nellie Wortman...its not just taking the class, but to see what others are doing is such an inspiration. I'm also taking a mini class with Stephanie Lee, both are starting soon.
This summer is about sewing, painting, soldering, flea markets, a few vacations...love summers!!!
